Struna Maestro Extra Violin – Unexpected Arrival
It started with a mystery. When we received a shipment of violins from Struna workshop last October, there were two violins we couldn’t figure out which model they are. After going through some paperwork, we were certain that they were not even in our order list. How strange!
We know that we should never judge people by their looks, but for violins it’s almost the opposite. The beautiful honey-colour varnish made us instantly believe these two unexpected arrivals are not the usual ones we had before and it has been proven to be true.
For those who have no idea what Struna violin is, here is a brief description. Struna brand is created by the Co-Owner of Whitehorse Music: Richard Bodinnar. They are purely hand-made instruments from the Struna workshop. There are four models in violins: Struna Classroom, Struna Concert, Struna Master and Struna Maestro.
After the mystery is solved, we now officially welcome this unexpected arrival to our Struna violin family: Struna Maestro Extra. It took us quite a debate on deciding a name for it. Unfortunately, in the end, we decided on the lazy but simple name as you can see. Sometimes, it makes me think of Pizza menu when I am hungry. LOL!!
Now, back to real business, how does it sound like? Well, I am telling you it sounds like nothing you heard before in the $3000-$4000 range. I would summarise the sound as: deep as a baritone voice, sweet as butter, strong and powerful as thunder, clear as if you stepped out of the fog. It’s an ideal soloist violin!
Usually, for a violinist beyond Grade 8, looking for a more advanced instrument, we used to only have handful of choices available, either German-made brand new violins, or some random antique violins if you are lucky to find the one that touches your soul which usually takes a lot of trips to various violin shops. Now, if you are one of the violinists who are still praying for your luck to hunt down The Violin, then you shouldn’t miss out trying out the Struna Maestro Extra Violin.
