For example, Beethoven used the well-known tune we now call "Ode to Joy" as the basis for his Ninth Symphony, while Bach borrowed popular French folk dance rhythms for his Unaccompanied Suites for Violin and Cello. Additionally, composers like Stravinsky and Bartok took from the folk music of their own countries in search of a national voice. "Amazing Grace" is certainly one of the most beloved of American folk tunes.
